Social entrepreneurship Playshop
The first BYM Playshop was held on 12 September 2008 at Birds Cafe in Cape Town. The theme for the event was social entreprenuership.
The event was a huge success with about 40 attendees and 7 exciting projects showcased.
These projects included:
- Tsiba University
- Township Patterns
- Technology Crafters
- South African Film Exchange
- Freedom Toaster
- Siyavula
- Broccoli Project
Playshop has a very specific format, which proved to be very successful:
- A short talk (30-minutes) on the theme followed by Q&A
- Speed dating – showcasing various projects related to the theme
- Project case study interview
- Open space
On this occasion the talk was given by Dirk Visser, Director of Brightest Young Minds. The profiled case-study was Siyavula and Dirk Visser interiewed Dr. Mark Horner who heads up Siyavula.
The evening was rounded off with a wine-tasting compliments of BYM alumni Petrus Bosman of Bosman Family Wines.
